It’s Time. 5G Technology Opportunities for Telecom Are Rolling Out

5G Technology Opportunities

As demands continue to increase for advanced connectivity, 5G opportunities are already rolling out worldwide in response. Let’s see the latest news on next-generation wireless technology.

5G Technology in the News

5G Networks Are 90 Percent More Energy-Efficient, Research Shows

Research conducted by Nokia and Telefónica found that 5G networks are up to 90 percent more energy-efficient per traffic unit than legacy 4G networks, delivering more data per kilowatt than legacy networks. The research, which was conducted over a three-month period, focused on the power consumption of the Radio Access Network (RAN) in Telefónica’s network. The rollout of 5G networks is set to increase traffic dramatically, making it critical that the energy consumed does not rise at the same rate. Since 5G is expected to bring massive traffic increases, it is vital that power consumption is kept to a minimum.

5G Speed Records Continue to be Broken

In a recent press release, Etisalat announced that they attained the current fastest speeds attained on a 5G network, reaching speeds of 9.1 Gpbs by using a combination of 2.6 GHz, 3.5Ghz, and 26 GHz spectrum. This game-changing download speed demonstrates how 5G technology continues to improve quickly in different marketing as many players fight to be cutting edge.

New Scientific Guidelines Put Public Health Safety Concerns at Ease

The International Commission on Non‐Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), a body that assesses the health risks of radio broadcasts, has declared that 5G is completely safe as long as its new guidelines are followed. The main changes to the guidelines apply to frequencies above 6Hz – airwaves that will be used to power high capacity 5G.

Preparing for 5G Opportunities

As major wireless network operators continue to roll out 5G technology, many organizations are not only anticipating the wave of benefits (increased speeds, low latency, high reliability), but also the vast innovation opportunities. But with so much regulatory and technical work at such an early stage, still, it’s important to plan ahead.

For example:

  • Prepare networks and services through technology upgrades and overlays
  • Secure a reliable transition with trusted partnerships and service partners
  • Stay on top of developing 5G technology opportunities and regulations
  • Plan for a safe transition to mitigate cyber security risks
  • Forecast how and where 5g fits in your long-term business plan
