Obama’s Clean Power Plan: Solar Companies Win, Taxpayers Lose

On August 3rd President Obama rolled out a new plan to increase clean energy. According to Solar Industry Magazine, “The fundamental objective of the Clean Power Plan is the phasing ou
favor of low- or zero-emission sources”. The plan does not directly call for the installment of photovoltaic systems, but it does increase incentive to create and enhance mechanisms that will facilitate solar energy. Learn more about the eye-catching changes of the Clean Power Plan.

The US Army is Building Resilience by going Solar

The U.S. Army Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah began construction on a 25-acre, $7.7 million solar power array. Don Smith, Dugway’s new garrison manager, said “Energy security is vital for the Army mission at Dugway. With aging infrastructure of the commercial power grid and frequent power outages it’s critical we look at alternate methods to insure an uninterrupted power source. Solar power is an excellent way to achieve a degree of energy independence and protect the Army’s mission.” This is a small part of the Army’s overall goal of having 25% renewable energy sources by 2025. Their reason for this is more than a political one, it also increase efficiency and security of the Army as a whole. Alternative-Energy Stock Funds Have Grown Up

In the past, renewable, clean energy has not had the reputation of being a reliable stock to invest in. However, this trends seems to be changing for a brighter and steadier future. Solar power’s recent dependence on oil prices is starting to fade because of decreased competition. Another cause for optimism has to do with the lowering costs of solar power. As the price becomes become comparable to traditional sources, there will be fewer subsidies need and this will spark even more investment. Learn more about the good news for alternative-energy stock.

The Future of Renewable Energy

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Renewable Electricity Futures Study conducted an investigation on whether or not renewable energy can meet the demands of the United States over the coming decades. What they found was that the United States current renewable electricity generation in conjunction with those being built now and in the future will account for “more than adequate to supply 80% of total U.S. electricity generation in 2050”. This is great news for our environment as renewable energy provides great benefits for the climate and economy. Get more information on the study’s results.

New World Record for Solar Cell Efficiency Set At 46%

A new world record for the conversion of sunlight into electricity has been set in Europe. The efficiency has now reach 46%. This is big news because new strides are being made in the renewable energy fields, as opposed to the fossil fuels field which has become stagnant. Learn more about this exciting record-breaking feat.
