Solar Engineering Program Manager

KMB Design Group is seeking a highly driven Solar Engineering Program Manager to lead the execution of a large portfolio of commercial & industrial (C&I) and utility-scale ground mount PV projects.

This is a high-volume, engineering-focused role responsible for managing 50–100 concurrent projects across all stages of design—from preliminary interconnection through construction support. The ideal candidate is an electrical engineer first, with the ability to independently drive design decisions and deliverables without reliance on senior review.

Important – Role Clarification

This role is NOT a construction project management position.

  • No site supervision or trade coordination
  • No general contractor or field scheduling responsibilities
  • No construction logistics management

This position is focused on engineering design execution, technical ownership, and portfolio-level delivery management.

Role Overview – High-Volume Design Environment

  • Manage a portfolio of 50–100 active solar engineering projects simultaneously
  • Projects range from early-stage feasibility and interconnection to permit and construction design
  • Deliverables are primarily electrical engineering packages, coordinated with civil and structural consultants
  • Requires the ability to rapidly shift between projects, clients, and jurisdictions while maintaining accuracy and schedule

Key Responsibilities

  • Own engineering delivery across a large portfolio of solar projects
  • Serve as the primary client point of contact for engineering-related items
  • Develop and maintain project schedules aligned with design milestones
  • Drive projects forward by removing bottlenecks and making timely technical decisions
  • Coordinate and manage external civil and structural engineering consultants
  • Assign and oversee work of engineers, ensuring efficient task execution
  • Provide clear, technically accurate responses to client and contractor inquiries
  • Ensure all deliverables meet quality, code compliance, and client standards
  • Support projects through construction with timely engineering responses (RFIs, revisions, etc.)

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in solar electrical engineering and/or engineering project management
  • Demonstrated experience managing 30+ concurrent design/engineering projects
  • Proven ability to produce complete, high-quality construction documents independently
  • Strong proficiency in:
    • AutoCAD
    • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
    • PV Syst and/or Helioscope
  • Strong communication, organization, and decision-making skills

Success in this role is defined by:

  • Throughput (moving many projects forward efficiently)
