New Hybrid Solar Cells Generate 5 Times More Energy By Harnessing Sunlight And Heat At The Same Time.

There are many exciting ‘breakthroughs’ in solar technology and each generation of new solar cells is more efficient than the previous at turning the sun’s light into energy. Scientists have developed a new hybrid solar cell that harnesses the sun’s light and heat to create more energy than ever before, thanks to the pairing of a photovoltaic cell with polymer films.

Check out this interesting development for higher efficiency panels from Inhabitat – Sustainable Design Innovation, Eco Architecture, Green Building.

Colorado’s Solar Power Market Hits Major National Milestone

The United States solar power market is on a tear, passing the 20 gigawatts of capacity milestone during the second quarter of this year, according to a new report from GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association.

Read more from The Business Journals and congratulations to the solar industry for breaking records in 2015!

How Solar Can Help in a Social Movement Against Climate Change

Solar energy is becoming an increasingly popular energy source – so what compels the average person to go solar? Just over a year ago, studies showed that cost/savings was increasingly not the only (or top) reason why consumers were choosing to go solar. Economic and climate concerns have also been named among the top reasons.

Will this lead to a new social movement? Find out more on PVSolarReport.com.

2.4MW Solar Installation on the Anaheim Convention Center

The Solar Power International 2015 took place in the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California- a perfect opportunity to showcase their large roof-mounted system. At the time of the installation in 2014, it was the largest city-owned, convention center, roof-mounted system in North America.

This Convention Center is also LEED certified, implements an on-site recycling program, farm to fork culinary program and even a rooftop herb garden. See more about their model of sustainability in SolarNovus.com.

New Bloomberg New Energy Finance Report Forecasts Strong, Steady Solar Growth — with the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) Extended

A recent report from Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) predicts that substantially more solar generating capacity will get built in the US, and a major industry downturn will be avoided, if the federal solar investment tax credit (ITC) is extended at its current level. The press release shows a visual of the impact of the ITC extension on US Solar. Read more of the findings on SEIA.org.

Obama Administration Strengthens Support for Solar

The Obama administration recently announced $120 million in new initiatives to help develop solar technology and increase its use in residential and commercial installations. “President Obama and Vice President Biden are committed to promoting smart, simple, low-cost technologies to help America transition to cleaner and more distributed energy sources, help households save on their energy bills, and to address climate change.” See more at SolarNovus.com.
