5G Network Release Date Could Happen A Lot Quicker Than Expected. Are You Ready?

When it comes to delivering the next generation of wireless networks successfully, businesses need to be prepared. Considered the next big step in the evolution of mobile connectivity, fifth-generation wireless technology (also known as 5G), is not only about meeting demands for lightning-fast connectivity for personal smartphones and business communications, but also increasing cloud computing, unlocking the Internet of Things potential and improving public safety communications. And many experts believe that the 5G network release date will happen much sooner than originally predicted.

What is the 5G Network Release Date?

Although the 5G network release date is not yet determined, some say deployment could happen as early as 2019. And the lack of an exact timeline isn’t stopping savvy businesses from laying the foundation and preparing themselves long before it even becomes commercially available.

Besides, with widespread trials already underway, the evolution of 5G is not only expected to happen a lot quicker than expected, but is also anticipated to have much faster and broader capabilities. Similar to the effect that moving from 2G to 3G had on the amount of data used across the country, 5G is expected to spike the volume of data available to businesses at unprecedented speed.

But to what extent? We won’t know just yet.

While the Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance has defined requirements for 5G which includes: data rates, transmission speeds, spectral efficiency and latency, specific industry standards for 5G networks have not yet been finalized. Some predict that 5G speeds will be at least 1 Gbps, with a latency of less than 10ms, transporting large amounts of information more than 100 times faster than current 4G LTE wireless networks and 10 times faster than superfast broadband connections. This efficient combination of low latency and high bandwidth opens the floodgates for many technological advancements.

Challenges of Implementing 5G Network

Despite the lack of standards, we expect that that the rollout of fifth generation networks may present unique technical challenges in terms of Wi-Fi and long-term evolution (LTE). Another big barrier businesses should be prepared for includes streamlining the permitting process to achieve the density necessary for 5G.

One way networks and current applications can get ready for the increased 5G speeds and device connectivity is by expanding existing data trafficking infrastructure and testing thoroughly. Besides, users won’t be able to access the additional data at a faster pace if that data cannot be efficiently stored and transferred.
